Where to stay
Do not slum it trust me, you are going to need someplace vaguely hospitable to reestablish following some all-night road parties (showers will be required ( for sure). Have a look at this Carnival bundle , 5 nights lodging is included.
Secure your place from the Sambadrome
The key spectacular of Carnival occurs from the Sambadrome. Here, Rio’s hottest samba schools strut their stuff before a 90,000 strong audience, each vying to be crowned the winners of this Sambadrome parade. Seeing this amazing spectacle on TV just does not do it justice; nothing could explain the air and exhilaration you get from really being in the center of it.
Tickets for the parade on Sunday and Monday will be the most popular and will sell out months ahead of time — so book when possible. Have a look at our hostel bundle which comprises a ticket to Task 11 of this Sambadrome.
Sections 7 and 5 at the Sambadrome will get one of the very best views, but if you’d like a guaranteed seat, select Part 9 — it is the only section with allocated chairs. Better still, get a chair in Section 13 and you will have first dibs on the outfits left from the samba dancers. This Carnival Critical Experience provides you access to segment 13… hellooooo leftover costumes!
Do not need a sore ? Have a pillow to sit on — these Sambadrome chairs are rather difficult and will not be kind to the own bottom.
Money, money, money
Money machines are known to run dry during Carnival — thus get a lot of money out until you go. People caipirinhas won’t buy themselves!
Novel ahead to make Certain That You Get views like this from the Sambadrome
Take to the roads
A chair at the Samabadrome is all good and well if you would like to see the Carnival — but imagine if you would like to be part of the activity? Take to the roads, my buddy! Chat to other passengers on your hostel and keep your ear to the floor, and you will quickly discover where the most popular blocos (or road parties) are happening. Lapa and Santa Teresa have been famous for their great blocos, so they are a fantastic place to get started.
Place yourself on parade
If viewing the parade is not sufficient for you, then why do not participate in it? Seriously! A number of Rio’s samba schools are available to keen travellers ready to arrive early, seeking to get a couple of weeks, learn the motions and don a costume. Oh, and put it in the front of a few hundred million individuals, needless to say.
Maintain your energy levels using a bowl of feijoada — a standard freshwater dish made with pork and beans. It is a famed Carnival staple, and it is really quite yummy.
You can not visit Carnival and never expect to become involved in a few of the fancy dress actions. Do not allow a costume take up valuable room in your back pack, however. Head to the Sahara area to purchase your costume — you will feel like a child in a toy store with the collection of costumes available. Sparkles nowadays.
1 caipirinha, two caipirinha, 3 caipirinha, 4…
I really don’t wish to seem like your mother, but go easy on the caipirinhas — it is likely they will be a whole lot more powerful than what you’re utilized to, and the Brazilians do not often knock them back just like we do. Try out a caipivodka rather, made with vodka rather than cachaça.
A sunrise end
When you have partied in a bloco to the morning, complete off it by watching the sun rise at Copacabana beach. Try not to find the tune on your mind… oh, it is too late, is not it? Altogether now: in the Copa, Copacabana…
Do not leave Rio when Carnival ends. Should you hang around until the next Saturday, you will have the opportunity to observe the winner’s parade at the Sambadrome. Not only is this series guaranteed to reveal the very best of the very best of Rio’s samba, it is also the parade that the majority of the sailors attend, which means you will find an authentic Brazilian celebration encounter.
